Owners and their tiny four-legged friends enjoyed a special day out in the sunshine on Saturday.

The Dachshund Club organised an event at the Royal Sandringham Estate using the area for walkies and visiting the gardens.

Lloyd J Cross, honorary club secretary, Dachshund Club, said: “We had on the day about 350 dachshunds and 175 owners.

“It started with registration and everyone had a rosette to keep and people who came along had entrance into the gardens."

“There were stalls with fresh fruit, soft drinks, all for free, and a complimentary prize raffle.”

The Dachshund Rescue and Suloti Dachshund Support charities were present on the day.

Mr Cross said: “The charities help with dogs and look after the welfare of the dog while looking for a home.”

The day had fun activities such as the Dachshund Dash and an organised stroll through the forest.

With heats for the race completed there was a break for lunch and a fancy dress competition for the dogs of which some 20 took part.

Following that there was a slightly longer walk until 3pm and then the finals of the dash.

Mr Cross said: “Visitors were sunbathing and picnicking and going around the gardens of the house during the day.

“We provided a Dachshund creche so people could leave their pets in the dog friendly area of the estate.

“All in all the weather was tremendous and it was a lovely day, absolutely perfect.

“I couldn't have wanted it to go better and the club will now start to look for the next venue for our annual event.”
